Victor Banerjee honored with ‘The Best Actor In A Secondary Role’ award at Ontario International Film Festival

Victor Banerjee, the veteran actor has won the award for Best Actor In A Secondary role for playing an aging priest in the movie Josef: Born In Grace at Ontario International Film festival.

Actor Victor Banerjee has been honored with the award for Best Actor In A Secondary Role at Ontario International Film Festival. He won this prestigious commendation for the film ‘Josef: Born in Grace’.

Illustrating about his character of an aging Christian priest in the movie the veteran actor says “I modeled my part on the Irish Christian brothers who taught me at school in Shillong” as per a report by Times Of India. He further added that it is filmed wholly in the state of Uttarakhand’s hilly region of Ranikhet and its nearby areas.

Directed by Sushant Mishra, Josef: Born In Grace is a Hindi language film that is based on the short story written by Umakanta Mahapatra.

Mishra is an Oriya director who has shot films like Dharini and Pearls of Wisdom.

Victor Banerjee had played the role of Father O’Hara who raises a child named Josef portrayed by Subrat Datta. It is a story that is set in the region of hilly areas of the Himalayas in the 1960s and 1980s. It also stars Sudarshan Juyal in a pivotal role.

Victor Banerjee, 74, was born in Calcutta in British India has done roles in notable movies like Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Gunday, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Delhi In A Day, Sarkaar Raj, Fever, Dev Bhoomi Chakra. He was nominated for a BAFTA award for the role in 1986 and won the Evening Standard British Film Award and National Board Review, the USA for it.

He worked prominently in English, Hindi, Bengali, and Assamese language films and Motion Picture’s Association of America honored him with the “Show-a-Rama Award” as “New International Star”.
