Sagar Sarhadi: The man who flattered us with ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ dialogues is no more

Sagar Sarhadi the veteran director and screenplay writer passed away today in Mumbai. And, we can’t get over this enormous loss to Urdu literature.

When Amitabh Bachchan said “Mere Dil ka woh hissa..kambakht Mera kab tha” in the romantic drama ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ we have all felt it. Though the emotions came out of Big B, the warmth of the words was someone else’s.

Unfortunately, the man behind the words is no more with us. Yes, Sagar Sarhadi who gave us amazing and evergreen dialogues from ‘Chandni’ and ‘Faasla’ breathed his last today in Mumbai.

Born as Ganga Sagar Talwar in 1933 when India was undivided he lends us some remarkable cinematic treats. His directorial debut ‘Bazaar’ starring refined actors Farooq Sheikh and Smita Patil is based on the bride buying topic.

Enveloped with melodious songs like ‘Phir Chidi Raat’ and ‘Dikhaye Diye Yun’ the performances of the actors including Naseeruddin Shah were commendable. Resulting they earned some nominations at Filmfare and Supriya Pathak gaining a victory for Best Supporting actress.

However, this is a major loss to not only the film industry but the literature arena also. He was the fierce description of Urdu writings and penned down Urdu short stories and screenplays.

Jackie Shroff who is gearing up with the upcoming Salman Khan starrer Radhe mourned over the demise. He tweeted and cited that he will miss him.

Although, other renowned personalities joined him including Scam 1992 director Hansal Mehta. The filmmaker stated “Rest in peace Sagar Sarhadi saahab”.

Sarhadi who is survived by his three nieces and three nephews was 88 and passed away due to age-related issues. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a Cardiac Care Hospital.

Well, he has jotted down the screenplays of wonderful movies like the Shahrukh Khan lead ‘Deewana’ and ‘Silsila’ that casts Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan.

We will miss you sir Sagar Sarhadi.
